Snugglepot and Cuddlepie the Musical

Snugglepot and Cuddlepie premiered at the Adelaide festival of the Arts in 1992, accompanied by a 22 piece orchestra in front of 23,000 people. The musical has also been performed professionally in Melbourne and Brisbane and released on CD featuring the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, a 120 voice choir, staring Ruth Cracknell, Peter Combe & Eric Bogle.

Since then it has been staged dozens of times by community theatres and schools all over Australia.

It is popular because of the catchy music of Peter Combe combined with the gorgeous characters invented by May Gibbs.

The nutcote imagery is embedded on the Australian psyche.

Nuts and Blossoms, Kookaburra, Mr Lizard, Mrs Snake. The Banksia Men, Frogs, Possum, Frilly and Fish Folk, John Dory, Anne Chovy provide magnificent costuming opportunities. The plot takes the gumnuts on a boat, under the sea, then in a bottle ever pursued by the Banksia men. Available as a musical, fully sung cantata with soloists or reduced cast for pantomime.

There are three options to choose from.

1.Fully sung work of 75 minutes.

2. Dialogue edition.

3. Primary School edition.

All have a CD backing track to aid with rehearsal or performance.

A share of royalties aids May Gibbs' nominated charities devoted to helping children.
