Clem Gorman has had  eleven plays produced by major professional companies all over Australia between 1979 and 2001. “A Fortunate Life” – adaptation of AB Facey’s classic novel. “ An epic” 

( Melbourne Theatre Company )  The Australian 1984.  The parents of a parentless boy who started work at eight on the frontier of Western Australia, struggled as a rural worker, survived the gore of Gallipoli, the loss of his home in the Depression and tragedy in World War 2 yet still felt his life was fortunate.  Cast 30 Principals parts. "Close to the Wind" is a powerful drama about a wealthy businessman, brought low by his own misdeeds, who tries to enlist his son so as to escape the consequences of his actions: with disastrous results.

 

“A Night in the Arms of Raeleen.”   Moxy a school teacher, yearning in middle age for the brave days of his Bodgie gang, stages a reunion. The occasion is painful hilarious proof that life has moved on and the once abused Raeleen has her revenge. 1W 4M

 

“A Manual of Trench warfare”  “ All the ingredients of greatness….sends shivers up the spine”  Sydney Morning Herald 1992.   A young private at Gallipoli struggles with the privations of trench warfare…the exploding shells, his hatred and respect for the enemy, the sniper on the hill and his fellow soldiers. This play shows the indomitable nature of the human spirit.

 

"Infamy" deals with a Pakistani refugee, renting from a female journalist, who becomes implicated in a terrorist bombing attempt. As she seeks to exonerate him a mysterious web of opposition enfolds her and the truth seems ever more elusive

 

Films:

Clem's new film, "Wild Animals", is funny but also sad and intended for digital production. A group of Australian native animals, in a dwindling forest, decide to go to war against the rampaging pastoralist.
