David Spicer Productions aims to provide full house musicals and plays to professional, amateur and school theatre. In 2004 Musicals, Plays and Pantomimes from David Spicer Productions were  be staged in 100  towns and cities across Australia , New Zealand, the United States and the United Kingdom.

It started when David Spicer began researching a book and was asked by composer Bernard J Taylor to be his agent. Since then DSP has expanded , but only quality works are brought into the catalogue. Many have been performed with great success on the professional stage.

Terms and Conditions

Perusal Library:

David Spicer Productions lends scripts, scores, videos and CD's of productions as follows.

Musicals:

In Australia: Postage and handling fee of $22 per production package, plus a refundable deposit of $22 per production. For plays and pantomimes a $11 postage and handling fee and $15 deposit is required.

In New Zealand: New Zealand Dollars are acceptable add $5NZ to all fees quoted.

In the United Kingdom: The Perusal fee is 15 pounds and 10 pounds refundable Deposit

In the US and Canada: Please send $20US ( or CA ) for postage and handling and a $20 US Deposit. ( or CA )

Scripts are lent only for 40 days after that money will be deducted as overdue fines. Lost or non returned scripts must be paid for in full.

In applying to the perusal library, please give some background about your theatre/school and email contact. In NZ, many scripts are in the Library of Music Theatre New Zealand.

Payments:

Cheque, money order or CREDIT Card is acceptable.

Royalties:

In the United States, due to different copyright legislation, royalties are paid up front based on the audience capacity. This is worked out by negotiation.

United Kingdom. All rates are by negotiation. As a benchmark - royalty rates are slightly lower in the UK than Australia and New Zealand. There is no V.A.T - as all payments are made as an export.

Royalty Codes for New Zealand: A 16%, B 14%, C 12.5 %, D 10%, E 8

Royalty Codes for Australia: The same as above plus GST

Book Hire: Hire rates for scripts and orchestrations vary . For some musicals DSP allows scripts to be purchased .Pantomimes and plays books must be purchased, quotes on request.

Videography: In some cases videography is permitted. Permission must be sought in writing and will be granted in most operettas, musical theatre updates and Australian musicals. If written permission is not given it is strictly prohibited.

Applying for the Right to Perform a Production.

Please include the following: Name of company, school, proposed dates of performances, venue, capacity of venue, home address ,phone and email of person responsible for scripts.

Availability: From time to time the rights are withdrawn from the amateur and school market. Please check before your first rehearsal to avoid disappointment

About David Spicer

David Spicer works as a TV  News Reporter for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation in Sydney.

He  has spent 15 years in  TV and radio, winning two Walkley Awards in the Radio Current Affairs Section in 1997 and 1998.

In 1997 he  also won the City of Sydney Performing Arts Challenge open tenor competition and was highly commended in 1998. He has performed in more 20 community theatre productions. He has been  the Communication Officer for the Association of Community Theatre.... an umbrella organisation  for Community Theatre since 1995. During that time ACT has expanded from 20 member theatres to 350.  ACT's web-site is www.showline.com.au

David Spicer helped develop A.C.T's successful national insurance policy and was largely responsible for A.C.T gaining a $5,000 grant from the Australia Council to hold the first ever State Conference of amateur theatre in New South Wales in June 1998. He helped co-ordinate the next three conference in 2000, 2002, and 2004

David Spicer is married with three children.
